L’intesa consentirà di ampliare l’offerta di servizi in banda ultralarga di TIM attraverso la tecnologia satellitare
TIM ha siglato un accordo strategico con Eutelsat Communications per ampliare la propria offerta di servizi in banda ultralarga attraverso la tecnologia satellitare, in linea con l’obiettivo di chiudere progressivamente il digital divide in Italia a partire dal 2021 e coprire in questo modo anche le zone più isolate e remote del Paese.
In base all’accordo, nel rispetto della normativa applicabile, TIM acquisterà per i prossimi anni l’intera capacità trasmissiva per l’Italia sui due nuovi satelliti ad altissime prestazioni che Eutelsat ha attivato e attiverà nei prossimi mesi: il satellite KONNECT per la distribuzione della banda ultralarga satellitare e, successivamente, il satellite KONNECT VHTS che, una volta entrato in funzione, grazie alla sua maggiore capacità, consentirà di offrire connessioni ancora più performanti fino a 200 Mbps e ad un numero maggiore di clienti.
L’offerta a banda ultralarga satellitare che TIM lancerà nei primi mesi del 2021 andrà ad aggiungersi alle offerte di connettività ultrabroaband già presenti sul mercato che si avvalgono delle reti FTTH, FTTC e FWA, risultando quindi completementare nell’ottica di coprire anche le zone più isolate del territorio nazionale. In questo modo verrà estesa ad un sempre maggiore numero di cittadini la possibilità di lavorare e studiare a distanza ed usufruire dei servizi evoluti di intrattenimento, così come a tutte le aziende la possibilità di essere connesse e cogliere le opportunità della rivoluzione digitale e dell’Industry 4.0.

TIM signs an agreement with Eutelsat to bring connectivity to the most remote areas of the country
The agreement will allow TIM to expand its ultrabroadband services offer through satellite technology
TIM has signed a strategic agreement with Eutelsat Communications to expand its offer of satellite ultrabroadband services, in line with the goal of gradually closing the digital divide in Italy starting in 2021 and thus also covering the most isolated and remote areas of the country.
Under the agreement, in compliance with applicable regulations, TIM will purchase, for the coming years, the entire transmission capacity for Italy on the two new high-performance satellites that Eutelsat has either activated or will activate in the coming months: the KONNECT ultrabroadband distribution satellite and, subsequently, the KONNECT VHTS satellite, once it comes into operation, which, thanks to its greater capacity, will allow even higher performance connections of up to 200 Mbps to be offered to an even greater number of customers.
The satellite ultrabroadband service to be launched by TIM in early 2021 will go to join the ultrabroadband connection solutions already on the market, which use of the FTTH, FTTC and FWA networks, and is therefore a complementary system aimed at covering even the most isolated parts of the country. This will extend to an increasing number of people the option of working and studying remotely and taking advantage of advanced entertainment services, while offering businesses the option to get connected and seize the opportunities of the digital revolution and Industry 4.0.
